Maria Kasian of Chester Springs, PA, passed peacefully at home on September 2, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Sanok, Poland, she left home at just 11 years old to live in Germany. She immigrated to America in 1949 with her dear sister Eugenia and found a home in the beautiful city of Philadelphia. She married her husband Mykola in 1958.
Maria, best known as Macia, was always an active member in the Ukrainian community-participating in scouting organizations PLAST and CYM. She taught kindergarten at the Ukrainian Golden Cross in Philadelphia and was a member of the Sodality at Christ the King Church, preparing children for their First Holy Communion. One of her greatest achievements was teaching at the Ukrainian Heritage School, 'Ridna Shkola', for 35 years.
She devoted her life to helping and teaching children. Her hobbies included cooking, baking and reading. She'll be remembered most for her wisdom, devotion to God, quick wit and, most importantly, kindness.
Our dear Macia joins her loving husband, Mykola Kasian, her parents Victor and Anastasia (Siryj) Zhubryd, and her six brothers and sisters. She leaves on earth her daughter Roma Klufas (Dr. Alexander), son Myron (Tania), six grandchildren: Paul Klufas, Matthew Klufas (Sarah), Melanie Klufas, Thomas Klufas, Andrew Kasian and Victor Kasian and two great-grandchildren: Emma Klufas and Oliver Klufas.
Family and friends are welcome to Macia's viewing on Saturday Sept. 13, 2025, at SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church at 9 AM. Requiem Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 AM. Macia's burial will take place at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to Macia's memory to the Ukrainian Educational & Cultural Center, PLAST Ukrainian Scouting Organization or SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church.
